Alpha Corporation Celebrates 50 Years With Grand Opening of New Headquarters
November, 2010 : PIPERTON, TN
The Alpha Corporation celebrates 50 years as a global enterprise Friday, October 29, with the Grand Opening of its new World Headquarters in Piperton, Tennessee.
Through its flagship business, AOC LLC, Alpha provides materials technology and service to the fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite and cast polymer industries. AOC materials are produced in 12 facilities, strategically located in nine countries throughout North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions.
“The Alpha Corporation and AOC are proud to celebrate this milestone as a business in Western Tennessee,” said Randy Weghorst, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “For fifty years, we have provided jobs, paid taxes and encouraged community participation for the benefit of the Greater Memphis area. Many of our employees volunteer time and financially support local universities, schools, places of worship, and charitable organizations. We look forward to being a corporate citizen of this region for many more years to come.”
Fred Norman, President and Chief Operating Officer, added, “Building the new headquarters here reaffirms our commitment to the future of Western Tennessee. Because of the way the building incorporates green solutions, it has been certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) system of the U.S. Green Building Council. These actions recognize how we strive to be a responsible business neighbor of this region as well as a model environmental steward.”
The AOC Business
The AOC unit of The Alpha Corporation is a leading global supplier of resins, gel coats, colorants and additives. AOC is North America’s largest manufacturer of unsaturated polyester resins — a family of high performance plastics that are specified for their durability, strength, resistance to corrosion, light weight and other features.
AOC success is derived from innovative research technology, world-class manufacturing quality, and superior technical support and service. The company’s industry leadership is seen in the recent introduction of “EcoTek®” Green Technologies. EcoTek materials offer environmentally friendly alternatives with renewable resources, recycled content and/or lower emissions.
AOC products are essential ingredients of customer material systems that are manufactured into finished products. While often not readily identifiable in finished products, AOC materials play a major role in finished product performance and appearance. Finished products that benefit from AOC materials technology include:
- lightweight car and truck parts that reduce emissions by improving fuel economy;
- boats, bowling balls, snowmobiles, swimming pools, spas and other recreational outlets;
- entry doors, fireplace surrounds, vanities and tub/shower units for the home;
- architectural panels and structures for residential and commercial application;
- pollution control equipment that would corrode if made of other materials, and
- wind energy and other components used by the power industry.
New World Headquarters
The new World Headquarters for The Alpha Corporation and AOC uses state-of-the-art technology and consolidates management functions under one roof for improved efficiencies and response. All research, development and technical support functions are now consolidated in the building which formerly housed parts of both management and technology.
The LEED certification for the new building recognizes how design and construction demonstrate environment and resource stewardship through improved energy savings and water efficiency, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and other green strategies. The building is the first in Fayette County to be LEED-certified.
